Excommunicated no more...

Rumours have been circulating for some time, and as of this past Wednesday (21 January) it has become official. The 20+ year declaration of latae sententiae excommunication has been officially lifted. The four bishops, consecrated by the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre of the "Society of Saint Pius X," and that group as a whole, have now taken significant steps in being officially reconciled to the Church. What an interesting development, which will undoubtedly lead to a complex discussion on the acceptance of the doctrinal nature of the second Vatican Council. This will prove interesting to all Catholics who are "attached" to the traditional liturgy of the Church, as well as those opposed to it. Since Summorum Pontificum, it has certainly been an interesting year and a half! Read an unofficial translation of the decree lifting the excommunications HERE.
